Moroccan Expedition Itinerary

Morocco

We begin our trip by taking the boat from Algeciras in Spain across the Mediterranean sea to Tangier the gateway to Northern Africa. The first night is spent camping at the base of the Rif mountains.

The following morning we set off for Chefchaoen a town famous for its pastel blue buildings set in the heart of the Rif mountains. Having had a chance to sample local cuisine we`ll drive through the afternoon down to the city of Fes. A comfortable campsite just outside the city will be our base from which you can take an English speaking guided tour of the city and discover its culture and tradition

Leaving Fes we head south and begin a 2 day off road trek through the Cedar Forests. Here you get the first real taste of off road driving as we pass through nomadic Berber encampments and if your’re lucky a chance to see the wild Barbary apes that roam these forests. We spend a night wild camping along the route and conclude the trek the following day, arriving at a friendly and well equipped campsite north of Midelt.

The following day is a day of rest, however you do have the option of driving the famous off-road Jaffa Circuit situated nearby and visiting the mining settlements that lay beyond the spectacular gorges of the Qued Moulouya or staying on site and learning how to cook traditional Moroccan Tanjin dishes.

The following day we drive south heading for Merzouga and the largest sand dunes in Morocco. Based at a trditional Kazbar just outside the village you will have the chance to go camel treking and learn some basics of dune driving techniques before we head off on a 2 day desert traverse through the northern Sahara. Passing through traditional desert villages and small oases we wild camp one night in the desert arriving the following day in the town of Zagora.

From here we head north over the High Atlas mountains via the famous Tizi n Tichka pass reaching highs of 2260 meters. Decending out of the moutains we arrive in Marrakesh where you have a day to visit the city with its mystical medinas and enchanting entertainers, an ideal time to shop for souvenirs. Taking the road north from the city we head for Rabat and spend one night on a campsite on the Atlantic coast before making our way back to Tangier and the boat bound for Spain.
